People of faith know that we have a moral obligation to protect present and future generations from toxic contamination in the products we use every day. Low-income and frontline communities are the first and most profoundly affected by toxic contamination. As people of faith, we are called to act for justice and ensure that policy makers at the state and national level put strong standards in place and also clean up contaminated sites.
Partnering with the Toxic Free Legacy Coalition and Safer States, Earth Ministry/WAIPL is working for new state and national chemical policies that will keep our communities and environment healthy and help us build a cleaner, greener economy. Washington State has been a national leader in safe chemical reform – Earth Ministry/WAIPL and the faith community played a key role in successful efforts to ban PBDEs, BPA, multiple forms of the toxic flame retardant Tris, and PFAS from food packaging materials such as fast-food wrappers and microwave popcorn bags.
The faith community is joining with scientists, healthcare workers, firefighters, and many others to support safe chemical policies. Working together, we can protect our children’s health from toxics and help put businesses on the right path to using chemicals that won’t harm our health, the environment, or their bottom line.
PFAS
Help phase out toxic PFAS chemicals in a multitude of consumer products, including water-repellent fabrics, nonstick cookware, carpet and upholstery, food packaging, and firefighting foam.
Mind the Store
Join the movement to ask manufactures and retailers to “mind the store” by disclosing, restricting, and ultimately eliminating harmful chemicals in their products
Flame Retardants
Washington is moving past toxic flame retardants to ensure better alternatives for fire safety and removes unnecessary chemicals from our home furniture and children’s products.
