Sk’aliCh’elh-tenaut May Return to the Salish Sea

On March 30, 2023, the Miami Seaquarium announced that it has agreed to partner with Philanthropist Jim Irsay and Friends of Lolita to bring Ska’liCh’elh-tenaut/Tokitae/Lolita back to the Salish Sea. The Seaquarium had recently been acquired by The Dolphin Company, and the CEO said that it was a top priority for them to bring her home. Bringing her home can only happen if her health continues to improve. You can read more here about Sk’aliCh’elh-tenaut, a Southern Resident orca and member of the L pod who was brutally captured in Penn Cove in 1970.

At this time, we continue to follow the lead of the Indigenous-led organization Sacred Sea when it comes to advocating for Ska’liCh’elh-tenaut’s return to the Salish Sea. To follow frequent updates on Ska’li Ch’elh-tenaut, visit Sacred Sea’s Facebook page and website.
