Oregon Denies Permit for Proposed Coal Export Terminal

The Oregon State Department of Lands has denied a key permit required for Ambre Energy to move forward with the proposed Morrow Pacific coal export terminal.

The denial of the removal-fill permit is a huge roadblock for Ambre Energy’s project, playing a key role in preventing 8 million tons from being exported along the Columbia River. The outstanding opposition voiced by our communities, including a strong faith voice and more than 20,000 citizens contacting Gov. Kitzhaber, were undoubtedly an influential factor in this decision.

Let us celebrate this significant victory for Northwest communities as we lead the fight against coal exports, and note it as a historic moment for the whole country – acknowledging that we can do better than mining and transporting dirty coal through our communities. Our families deserve and will accept nothing less than this kind of leadership that protects our health, safety, economies, and climate.
