Rev. Evan Clendenin of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Aberdeen, WA answered Earth Ministry’s request for a letter to the editor to his local paper during a critical week in the campaign to oppose an oil export terminal in Grays Harbor County. In a very short turn-around time, he wrote this excellent letter asking city officials to make a better choice for the economic future of the region, for Native treaty fishing rights, and for the intrinsic value of clean air and water.
Faith leaders can have a great influence on the moral decisions of a community and their elected officials. We at Earth Ministry are so grateful for this letter and for all of the good work that the faith community does every day to protect Earth’s ecosystems and God’s Creation.
