The Washington Department of Ecology has denied Northwest Innovation Works’ shorelines permits for the Kalama Methanol plant. As our friends in the Power Past Fracked Gas coalition wrote, “Ecology’s disapproval of the Shoreline Management Act permits means that Northwest Innovation Works and the Port of Kalama may not construct the methanol refinery, the export dock, or any related infrastructure.” This is great news for the health of our communities and the environment.

This fall, over 150 people of faith commented on the project’s draft second Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement and told the Department of Ecology that building the world’s largest fracked gas to methanol refinery in Kalama is not consistent with faith values. Thank you to everyone who spoke out to say #frackedgasisNOTfaithful and helped ensure that these permits were denied!
