Are you, or your congregation, interested in solar power but not able to invest in panels on your building at this time? Community solar offers a great solution, providing an opportunity for congregations, or individuals, to “buy-in” to pre-existing solar infrastructure. The Capitol Hill EcoDistrict, a community sustainability initiative led by Capitol Hill Housing, has partnered with Seattle City Light to launch a Community Solar project, making participation in sustainable solar energy much more accessible while supporting a great cause!
This project allows Seattle residents to subscribe to a community array located atop the Holiday Apartments, which is one of Capitol Hill Housing’s affordable housing properties. Participants will then receive credits back on their City Light bills. In 2020, once everyone has earned back their investment, the array will be donated to Capitol Hill Housing to continue to support affordable housing.
The Capitol Hill Community Solar project serves three primary goals: to produce clean energy, support the regional clean energy economy, and reduce the long-term operating costs of affordable housing.
If you or your congregation is interested, you can learn more at Capitol Hill EcoDistrict or sign up online at Seattle City Light.
