Earth Ministry/WAIPL Attends Toxic-Free Cosmetics Act Bill Signing in Olympia
Earth Ministry/WAIPL was honored to join our partners at Toxic-Free Future at the bill signing of HB 1047, the Toxic-Free Cosmetics Act. WA now has the strongest law on the books in the country regulating toxic chemicals in personal care products. Starting in 2025, PFAS, lead, phthalates, formaldehyde, and other toxic chemicals will be banned in all cosmetics and personal care products sold in WA.

Petition to WA State Legislators: Stop Salmon Extinction
Restoring the Lower Snake River is the cornerstone of a regional salmon recovery strategy. By taking action during the 2023 legislative session, WA State can help lead this holistic effort which has the potential for far reaching impacts including the recovery of endangered salmon and steelhead, investment in transportation, agriculture, and clean energy infrastructure.
Interfaith advocates present overview of 2023 bills
By Catherine Ferguson SNJM The Fig Tree, Feb 2023 At the 2023 Eastern Washington Legislative Conference on Jan. 21, legislative advocates from three faith-based organizations shared insights on bills that address issues of concern to faith communities during the Washington State Legislature, which is a long session this year running from Jan. 9 to April 23. Many bills being proposed in the legislature have support from the organizations.
Governor Inslee Signs HB 1694!
HB 1694 is now law! It allows Washington to tackle toxic PFAS chemical in a broad range of products such as apparel, cosmetics, and firefighter gear by 2025 - the fastest PFAS timeline in the nation.
2022 Washington State Legislative Session Wrap Up
This year was a short session, meaning bills had just 60 days to make it through the legislature. We helped pass 3 exciting bills through the legislature. Our work in this session also laid the groundwork for multi-year efforts to pass ambitious environmental justice efforts.

Win on PFAS in Food Packaging
This spring, over 130 people of faith asked the Department of Ecology to speed up the phase out of PFAS in food packaging. They heard us and changed their timeline, thanks to you!
Clean Cars Petition to Gov. Inslee
Earth Ministry/WAIPL is joining with the Faith Action Network and our other partners in the Clean Cars campaign to petition Gov. Inslee, asking him to honor the desire of the legislature and the electorate by issuing an executive order setting forth the Clean Cars 2030 EV target.
NW tribes want to be at the table for green energy planning
When green energy projects bloom across Washington, many are on cultural sites important to tribes in the region. The Yakama Nation’s director of natural resources feels torn about the increasing number of windmills and dams in his tribe’s ancestral territories. While Phil Rigdon (Yakama) supports the pursuit of greener energy sources, he has also been part of the tribe’s opposition to these developments when they negatively impact cultural sites. Their concerns are not often heard by developers.
