Fortify Washington! for Environmental Justice
The goal of this effort is to build power and community in cities across Washington state by asking City Councils to pass the Fortify Washington! Resolution Resolution to Commit to an Environmentally Just Washington State, Free from Bigotry, Racism, and Oppression. The Petition Toolkit is a decentralized toolkit that can work anywhere in Washington, and, with some edits, anywhere in the U.S.
The process:
- STEP 1: Gather signatures. Protests are a great opportunity, and you can do this at any protest, any time! This can also be done at rallies, on college campuses, at sacred communities/churches/congregations, grocery stores, other events. You don’t need permission to join a protest in a public place. But for college campuses or other private property, make sure you get permission.
- STEP 2 (Wait for the City Council Toolkit): Organize to submit your signatures to your City Council and ask them to pass the resolution. This is a more nuanced process, and we’ll put out a toolkit and instructions when the time comes.
