Earth Ministry/WAIPL worked closely with the Washington State diocese, supporting them in their discernment and research to come out with the statement. The bishops wrote to “urge Catholics, people of every faith and all people of good will to join us in calling for a full review of Millennium Bulk Terminal — Longview coal export project similar to the study already underway for the proposed Gateway Pacific Terminal at Cherry Point.” They added that “such a review would include environmental effects on water and air quality, cultural and archaeological resources, fish and wildlife and other possible adverse environmental effects” as well as “the effect that burning coal has on climate change.” You can read the whole statement online here.
