Church’s solar panels help environment, power bill

Earth Ministry member congregation First Congregational Church of Walla Walla has undertaken the installation of 60 solar panels on their church roof. Implementing this solar project is a manifestation of First Congregational Church’s faith value of caring for the earth.The church aims to be better stewards of creation by harnessing sustainable solar energy for their own building and the surrounding community. This article discusses how this has been an exciting project for members of the church, how it will supplement their energy needs and how they found funding for this project.

Members of First Congregational Church in Walla Walla this spring did a deep dive into the feasibility of harnessing solar panels and reducing their electrical usage. 

Once FCC member Dr. Eric Gryler looked into it, he and Church Moderator J.R. Van Slyke and FCC’s the Rev. Nathaniel Mahlberg gave a presentation at a church meeting. 

Among reasons to go solar, Eric cited decreasing the carbon footprint and making a contribution to global climate change and the new system would supply about 40 percent of FCC’s electrical needs. (continued…)
