The Season of Creation begins September 1st and is the time of year when many Christians around the world renew their commitment to care for creation through prayer and action. In 1989, Ecumenical Patriarch Dimitrios I designated September 1st as a day of prayer for creation – later to be named World Day of Prayer for Creation. Over the past 34 years, this day of prayer has been adopted by many in the Christian church, and has evolved to recognize the time between September 1st and October 4th, which is known as the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, to be the Season of Creation.
