Greening Congregations Program
Welcome to our Greening Congregations Program page, and thank you for your interest in partnering with us in this important work.
My name is Betsy Cannon. As Outreach Coordinator, I am Earth Ministry’s liaison for this exciting program and would love to share this opportunity for your congregation. I have compiled below a list of common questions about Greening Congregations that I hope are helpful as an introduction to our program.
What is the Greening Congregations Program?
The Greening Congregations Program offers a partnership with Earth Ministry and a flexible strategy for engaging faith communities in creation-care efforts. The program supports your congregation as you envision and celebrate the “greening” of many different areas of your church’s life.
Greening Congregations are awarded a banner to be displayed in their church. Ongoing support for greening efforts includes an annual adult education led by an Earth Ministry presenter, an in-person staff consultation, two congregational gatherings annually for networking with other faith communities, and an official annual review of your greening activities.
Who can participate in the Greening Congregations Program?
Earth Ministry invites any member congregation to engage in this program. For congregations outside of the Northwest, we are unable to provide in-person staff support, but are available by phone and email. For all Greening Congregations Partners, we are pleased to post your accomplishments on our web site.
What are the benefits of this partnership with Earth Ministry?
Earth Ministry has designed an application process that is accessible and easy to follow, complete with templates for required documents (see below). We supply multiple resources for green teams, both online and through staff support. See our resource page for a list of great online resources, including our Greening Toolkit, Earth Ministry publications, and worship aids. Staff support is offered in the Northwest by phone or email and through in-person consultations and
adult educations. Earth Ministry also organizes annual networking opportunities for Greening Congregations to share their projects, events, and plans with one another.
This program sounds perfect for my congregation! How do we get started?
The application process is laid out in the Greening Congregations Process, which outlines step-by-step how to get started on the path to implementing more sustainable practices in your house of worship.
