Greening Congregations at United Methodist Women Quadrennial Meeting
On June 1st, Earth Ministry led two Greening Congregation workshops at the Western Jurisdiction United Methodist Women's Quadrennial Meeting.
June 1st through 3rd, United Methodist Women from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming gathered in Portland, OR to worship, celebrate their shared work, and learn from one another.
The first day featured a "Going Green" workshop by Earth Ministry's Program and Outreach Director Jessie Dye and Outreach Coordinator Betsy Cannon. Over 75 congregational and conference leaders attended the workshop and shared how their faith and committment to social justice led them to environmental stewardship. The women discussed how to steward creation through their individual actions, congregational worship, church buildings and grounds, and community education.
The session drew to a close as Jessie Dye explained the importance of faithful advocacy. She spoke of the need for safe chemical reform to protect children and the importance of energy issues throughout the United States.
